Big rush, big moves and big finishes are on the roster at the upcoming Canadian Cross-Country Mountain Biking Championships and Ontario Cup. The 2022 event offers Cross Country mountain bike races for all level of riders from Youth and Sport to Canada’s top World Cup racers.

With scheduled events kicking off on Thursday leading to the final races on Sunday, it’s a great experience to bring the whole family and cheer on the world-class talent of racers.

It is serendipitous for Hardwood to be the event site this year as they first hosted the Canadian Championships in 1997, making this the 25th anniversary of serving as host site. Olympic riders of the past as well as current Olympians will be on site to test their skills against Canada’s new up and coming best.

Hardwood Ski and Bike has been a premier destination in Oro-Medonte for mountain bikers for more than three decades.

“There is a certain lifestyle of the area that bleeds into everything we do,” says Marketing Coordinator, Christine Sharpe. “It’s about stress relief, get outside and into nature. It’s about improving physical and mental health, while still moving at your own pace. We’re close enough to Toronto to make it worth the day trip, but far enough away to offer a complete change of scene.”

Sharpe expressed how exciting it is to be bringing events back to Hardwood, “the fact that it’s the 25th anniversary of us hosting, doubled up with the pure excitement of running events again in the post-pandemic world. Like our fellow resorts, we’re just so thrilled to have something that feels like a return to normal.”

The Championship is free for spectators to come out and cheer on the racers. Hardwood’s compact course allows for plenty of opportunities to see the racers in action multiple times during the laps. Saturday features the Cross-Country Elite Races, which are the highest profile races not to be missed.
